Television personality and pitchman for late night "wonder" products, Billy Mays was found dead in his home in Tampa, Florida early this morning by his wife. He apparently died sometime in the night.
Mays was born in Pennsylvania and had worked himself up from a salesman on the Atlantic City Boardwalk to criss crossing the country for twelve years selling various products and then hit it big with The Home Shopping Network, selling the cleaning agent OxiClean. He went on to pitch such items as the Awesome Auger, the Grip Wrench, the Hercules Hook, the Jupiter Jack, Mighty Putty, the Samuri Shark, the Vidalia Slice Wizard, and the Washmatic, among numerous other products, usally at the low, low price of $19.99.
Mays was a household image and appeared on The Tonight Show and The Conan O'Brien Show in 2009. In April of 2009, the Discovery Channel started a regular weekly show The Pitchmen which ended with a tribute to Mays after his death.
